Today Lucy and I both woke up confused as we were told the storm would start again during the night so we were prepared to have yet another rainy day, however outside was bright blue sky and the temperature was perfect - ooh yeah! We got ready fairly quickly as we both knew we wanted to rent a moped for the day (sorry mum) and go down to the beach to make most of our last day on the island - the mopeds cost a ridiculous $2 each for 24 hours. Earlier our friends at the hostel suggested a beach day so we jumped on the bikes and went for a joy ride down to Cát Bà island beach resort.
The ride down to the beach obviously didn't take long as it's a small island but feeling that sense of freedom after being restricted with cash for the last couple of days was absolutely amazing. Once we got to the beach it didn't take us long to lay our towels down on comfy sun beds provided by the beach resort and make our way into the sea - the sea was lovely and warm! We were so happy that we were finally on a beach on our travels as this was a first for us in South East Asia.
After a while we had some lunch on the beach (Check out meal 14 on our eat page) and then basically laid in the sun until sunset with a couple of ice cold beers. A few of us then decided to go and drive around the island to find the best view for the sunset and it paid off perfectly as we sat on the harbour with the local fishing boats watching the sun go down and eating a baguette - wicked day!
Later on we chilled in the hostel garden with our roommates until it was time to go visit another beach, but this time in the dark! A roommate
earlier explained she visited a local beach and swam with iridescent plankton which looks unbelievable to see so it was a no brainer to go along with her tonight and explore. Im not going to lie it was a pretty bumpy ride down to the local beach, especially with it being pitch black. Once we finally found the small local beach we made our way down to the sea to see if it was there, unfortunately it was quite deep in the water so we hadn't seen it as much as we had hoped (Lucy was terrified of being in the sea at 11pm) however we did get a glimpse and it was almost like swimming amongst glitter - a fun experience for sure!
A great day to finish up our stay in Cat Ba Island!
