This morning Lucy and I decided to visit the War Remnants Museum as it is one the top things to do in Ho Chi Minh City along with the Cu Chi Tunnels, they both resemble the war between the Americans and Vietnamese in 1954 - 1975. We have been told by travellers it is best to visit the Museum first as it means we will have a better understanding of the tunnels the next day, we have been warned that the museum is very dark and gruesome so we were instantly very intrigued. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at KFC which to be honest we didn’t enjoy at all, so far our food hasn't been as fantastic as always and perhaps it is our fault as we have been straying away from the local Vietnamese food but after being in Vietnam for exactly four weeks now we are finding the local cuisine slightly repetitive.
Once we arrived at the museum we couldn’t believe how big it was! It had tanks, helicopters, aeroplanes and guns all out front with a three level building behind. The museum is number coordinated and after a few minutes trying to work out where on earth to start eventually we realised we had to start on the top floor and make our way down to point 12 which led us outside. I don't want to give too much away but the pictures and paintings in the museum really gave the war an extremely raw and sad image particularly towards how the children were affected by Agent Orange. Agent Orange was a powerful herbicide used by U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War to remove Vietnamese forest cover and crops, over 3 million Vietnamese citizens suffered as a result of the severely strong chemicals with multiple health problems such as cleft palate, mental disabilities, hernias and even extra fingers and toes (As you can see by some of our images below it was very disturbing). Although it was a lot of reading (And I mean a lot) I would definitely recommend visiting.
Later that night I had a big West Ham game to watch on the busy strip so we decided to use that as an excuse to have a couple of drinks and experience the chaotic nightlife for a few hours before heading back to the hostel after a long day.
