Bangkok, Thailand Day 1

Bangkok is something completely new to Lucy & I as we didn't originally plan to come here but unfortunately I can't go into detail about Bangkok in this blog post because we sat on a bus for 12 hours to get there! We left Siem Reap at 8am and was told it would take no longer then 8 hours but we would be silly to believe that now we are 6 weeks into our travels. The bus itself was the worst one yet, it was very similar to a never ending school bus.
The passport control leaving Cambodia was very easy however we did have a 15 minute panic because another traveller accidentally took my backpack as we were getting off the bus; we both had green bags and he mistakenly picked up my bag thinking it was his. Whilst I was searching for my backpack like a headless chicken thinking it had been stolen he was in the queue for immigration thinking he had his own bag but really it was mine, we were relieved! We waited to enter Thailand for about 45 minutes and once we were cleared we got back on the bus for another four hours to Bangkok.
We arrived around 6pm, once we got off the bus we couldn't believe how quiet the streets were. Luckily the bus stop was close to our hostel we had booked in advance so we had no struggle finding the hostel. There were very few cars and most shops were closed, this is something completely different to what we have heard from other travellers who have all said Bangkok is crazy, mad and never sleeps! Basically the country was in mourning due to the king's death last year- we got ourselves into a five day funeral!
It didn't take us long to find a good Pad Thai restaurant for dinner which we have been craving. Later on that night we chilled in the common area where all the travellers socialise whilst we watch the saturday football.
