I woke up today with a flashback of when Alfie and I first decided to travel to Vietnam back in August, we sat on my laptop in London googling what to do whilst we were here as to be completely honest neither of us had a clue (the phrase 'Winging it' best describes us at this stage). I remember reading reviews on the Cu Chi Tunnels and even with a huge lack of background knowledge we saw a few pictures and read a couple of travelers reviews and we were both SO excited. I cannot believe that this day is now actually here, it’s our last day in Ho Chi Minh city and after one month of traveling from the North to the South our time in Vietnam has come to an end…seriously, where does the time go?
We visited a local bakery before our two hour bus journey to the tunnels as it was a two hour long journey into the Vietnamese jungle. We stopped halfway at a shop where disabled Vietnamese artists handmade plates, vases, paintings etc. During the afternoon we were shown the gruesome boobie traps made by the Vietnamese Troops and how they were made, we also had the chance to climb inside a real army tanker whilst it began to absolutely pour it down in the jungle (flip flops were not a good idea). Climbing down into the tunnels was definitely a unique experience, the tunnels were so tiny you had to almost crawl on your hands and knees whilst dripping with sweat as it was rather warm - Shocking that men, woman and children used to live in these tiny confined conditions! The shooting range at the end of the tour was something Alfie and I were really looking forward to having a go on an AK47 as it’s something we’ve never done before, unfortunately you had to buy a minimum of 10 bullets which turned out to be a bit too expensive to justify!
Later on that evening we chilled with people we had met in the hostel on the roof terrace catching up on each others day before heading to sleep. Cambodia was definitely coming at the perfect time tomorrow, we both feel like we are ready to leave Vietnam now and onto exploring somewhere new!
