Another day, another bus trip! Today we were off to another city in Cambodia, Siem Reap, so we were up early making sure everything was packed before jumping on a tuk tuk to a private mini bus we had booked online. Alfie and I were equally intrigued as to what this seven hour mini bus journey would be like after the last one we had, surprisingly it turned out to be the best bus so far which even left on time and arrived earlier than expected - a definite first for us. As we approached the bus stop around ten local moped taxis were running along with the bus knocking on the windows and shouting before we had even got off as Alfie and I both looked at each, here we go!
We ended up talking with an incredibly sweet local Cambodian tuk tuk driver who goes by the name of James Bond, his English is impressive and he has a great sense of humour whilst not coming across as a typical tuk tuk driver squeezing every penny possible out of you. Because we didn't want to risk getting a different tuk tuk each time we promised James Bond we would use him for every trip we do whilst we were here including Angkor Wat (the worlds largest religious monument), he was overjoyed! What a lovely start to the trip.
With this particular hostel we took a bit of a risk as we didn't want the same party vibe Mad Monkey in Phnom Penh had and WOW did it pay off. The Hideout Hostel is more of a hotel with a huge pool, rainfall showers and even a bath on the balcony. A handy tip for backpackers who want more of a relaxed stay is to read the reviews thoroughly even if it is not as popularly reviewed as the other party hostels.
Later on we called James Bond and asked him to pick us up so we could explore the small streets around pub street in Siem Reap followed by hitting the night market. Siem Reap gives me the same amazing feeling just like Hoi An did in Vietnam - it was an amazing evening! Later on we attempted to get some sleep as we set our alarms for a 4am wake up call - it's Angkor Wat time!
