After todays blog post you will notice we have planned to blog about Koh Samui a little differently compared to the everyday posts we had been doing in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangkok. This is only because we have so much of the blog to catch up on, our everyday posts could get slightly repetitive as we are knee deep in catch up work from all of our adventures and want to make sure we do it right.
Today we planned to go to the Full Moon party on Koh Phangang island and meet up with some friends we met in Bangkok, however by the looks of the weather it looks like it may be cancelled. Darren lives in the South of the island and the ferry to Koh Phangang island leaves from Koh Samui in the North as well as speed boats leaving every hour so it was ideal to stay in Samui Mermaid Resort on top of the island for the night as it is besides the pier. It was a great idea because if somehow we couldn't attend the Full Moon party, there is a night market every friday in Fishermans Village which is only walking distance from our hotel.
I have been to the night market before and I was extremely excited to show Lucy as it holds a lot of family memories for me. We had a lovely stroll looking at all the different types of stalls and street food it had to offer, although it was quieter than usual as we are not in high season. After walking past the apartment where I stayed in last time I was here I recognised a restaurant in which I remember having great Thai food, therefore it was a no brainer to eat here for dinner (Check out meal 36 on our EAT page)
Whilst we were eating the storm grew worse as the wind got stronger. We had a feeling all transportation to the Full Moon party would either be cancelled or we would be advised not to go, even the restaurant manager came over to our table and said he is not letting his son go tonight because it is simply too dangerous. After our meal we spoke to a few travel agencies who simply said the waves are too high for the speed boat, it is common for people to have serious accidents so of course we did not risk it. Instead we went to an Irish bar and had a couple of drinks whilst playing pool.
